Carat
The carat is the unit of measurement for the weight of a diamond. 1 carat (1 ct) is equal to 0.2 grams . The heavier a diamond is, the rarer and therefore more expensive it is.
However, two diamonds of the same weight can look completely different depending on their size and proportions.
Color
Diamonds are graded from D (colorless) to Z (yellowish tint) .
- DF : Completely colorless, extremely rare and valuable.
- GJ : Almost colorless, offering a good balance between quality and price.
- KZ : Tints visible to the naked eye, often less expensive.
Clarity
Inclusions are natural imperfections in a diamond.
FL (Flawless) : No flaws, extremely rare.
IF (Internally Flawless) : No internal inclusions.
VVS1-VVS2 : Very, very small inclusions, invisible to the naked eye.
VS1-VS2 : Small inclusions barely visible under magnifying glass.
SI1-SI2 : Inclusions visible under magnifying glass, sometimes with the naked eye.
I1-I3 : Visible inclusions, which may affect durability.
Cut
Cut is the most important criterion for a diamond's brilliance . It determines how light is reflected inside the stone .
The ideal proportions for maximum shine :
- An “Excellent” or “Very Good” size guarantees optimal reflection.
- A poorly executed cut (too deep or too flat) reduces the shine.
